John Emerson8 Whitney (John7, John6, Nathan5, David4, Benjamin3, John2, John1), son of John7 and Lydia (Allen) Whitney, was born 13 Sep 1822, Westminster, MA,[1] and died 30 Nov 1907, Grafton, MA, aged 85 years 3 months 17 days, of cerebral hemorrhage.[2]

Marriage intentions were published 15 Jun 1844, Princeton, MA, for him "of Westminster" and Cleora Allen.[3] He married firstly, 23 Sep 1844, Westminster, MA, Cleora Allen,[4] daughter of Abner and Lucy (Brooks) Allen of Princeton. She was born 2 Oct 1816 (per Pierce) or 20 Oct 1816 (per vital records), Princeton, MA, and died 23 May 1883, Grafton, MA, aged 66 years 7 months 3 days, of Bright's disease of kidneys.[5]

He married secondly, 24 Dec 1884, Grafton, MA, Mary B. (Fisher) Ballou, daughter of Herman and Bathsheba (Cobleigh) Fisher.[6] She was born 24 Mar 1842, Fitzwilliam, NH, and died after 1900.

He resided Grafton, MA.

Heywood says the following:[7]

"Whitney, John Emerson8, s. of John7 and Lydia, m. Sept. 23, 1844, Cleora. dau. of Abner Allen of Pn. He res. on the place bequeathed to him by his f. a few years, then went to N. H., and subsequently to Grafton, where he still remains. 'A strong advocate of what is right in morals and religion.'"
