John Cushing8 Whitney (John Beadon7, Josiah6, Josiah5, David4, Benjamin3, John2, John1), son of John Beadon7 and Harriett (Cushing) Whitney, was born 9 Feb 1832, Ashby, MA,[1] and died 16 Dec 1896, Fitchburg, MA, aged 64 years 10 months 7 days, of chronic nephritis.[2]

He married, 15 May 1854, Townsend, MA, Mary W. Pillsbury, daughter of Benjamin C. and Tamer (Marble) Pillsbury.page 159 She was born 4 Oct 1834, Fitchburg, MA, and died 13 Sep 1903, Fitchburg, MA, aged 67 years 11 months 9 days.[3]

He was born in Ashby, MA, has resided in Ashby, Lowell, and at present in Fitchburg, MA. Is a retail coal and wood dealer. While residing in Ashby he held the office of selectman from 1868 to 1873; was overseer of the poor for five years and assessor and constable from 1869 to 1871. Since his residence in Fitchburg he has been a member of the board of councilmen for 1890-91. He is highly esteemed and respected; resided Fitchburg, MA, 73 Nashua St.

iii. Bertha May Whitney, b. 4 Jun 1869, Ashby, MA;[6] m. 24 Oct 1893, Fitchburg, MA, Edward A. Hall, b. ca. 1867, Portland, ME, son of Arthur T. and Annie F. (Jordan) Hall.[7]
