John A. Whitney (John), son of John and Charlotte (Prouty) Whitney, was born about 17 Jul 1811, Winchendon, MA, and died 6 Jul 1856, Royalston, MA, aged 44 years 11 months 19 days, of consumption.[1]

He "of Boston" married, 26 Oct 1834, Bolton, MA, Asenath Whitney Houghton,[2] daughter of Thomas and Asenath6 (Whitney) Houghton, and granddaughter of John5 and Sarah (Atherton) Whitney. She was born 15 Jun 1813, Bolton, MA,[3] and died 28 Dec 1891, Winchendon, MA, aged 78 years 6 months 13 days, of Bright's disease.[4]

i. Mary Asenath Whitney, b. 30 Mar 1835, Boston, MA;[5] d. 15 Feb 1908, Winchendon, MA, aged 72 years 10 months 15 days, of apoplexy;[6] m. 7 Apr 1857, Gardner, MA, Donald McKennan, both of Winchendon.[7]
ii. Victoria Milly Whitney, b. 18 Oct 1839, Bolton, MA.[8] She probably died between 1840 and 1842.
iii. Victoria C. Whitney, b. ca. 1842, Wolcott, VT; d. after 1910, when living in Winchendon, MA; m. 10 Dec 1859, Athol, MA, John Ainsley, both of Winchendon.[9]
iv. George T. Whitney, b. ca. 1851, Royalston, MA (birth record not found); d. after 1910, when living in Leominster; m. 17 Jan 1878, Winchendon, MA, Mary A. Miller,[10] b. 31 Aug 1858, Spencer or Medway, MA, d. 13 Dec 1910, Leominster, MA, aged 52 years 3 months 12 days, of leucaemia,[11] daughter of Thomas and Mary A. (-----) Miller, or of John Miller. No children.
