Grover Scollay8 Whitney (Joseph7, William6, William5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Joseph7 and Hannah (Perley) Whitney, was born 10 Jul 1816, Winchendon, MA,[1] and died 16 Apr 1868, Winchendon, MA, aged 51 years 9 months 6 days, of consumption.[2]

He married, 30 Mar 1851, Winchendon, MA, Laura A. B. Roby, daughter of Ebenezer and Laura A. (Bowker) Robey.[3] She was born about 10 Jan 1828,[4] Cambridge, MA, and died 25 Jun 1900, Winchendon, MA, aged 71 years 5 months 15 days, of heart disease.[5]

I copy this from the Congregationalist. It was written by his pastor: "Disease for years had made inroads upon his body, but it could not keep down the energy and ardor of his earnest soul. Behind his modest brow was a large brain, and when he felt a grand truth, its movements were to all hearts what the stroke of the engine is to the mill. A large circle will miss an earnest Christian and a bold defender of the truth. His end was peace." Mr. Whitney married Miss Laura A. Roby, of Cambridge, MA. He resided Winchendon, MA.
