Clarence Eugene Ramsdell alias Whitney son of Emery W. and Sarah Elizabeth (Vining) Ramsdell, was born 25 Sep 1861, Medford, MA, and "Clarence E. Whitney formerly Ramsdell" died 16 Jun 1890, Medford, MA, aged 28 years 10 months, of phthisis.[1]

He married, 27 Apr 1887, Boston, MA (recorded at Medford, MA), Harriet F. Griffin, daughter of John M. and Priscilla (Decoser) Griffin.[2] She was born about 10 Oct 1860, Boston, MA, and died 1 Dec 1908, Malden, MA, aged 48 years 1 month 21 days, of hemiplegia.[3] She married secondly, 5 Aug 1895, Boston, MA, Rollin N. Corlew, b. ca. 1845, Boston, MA, son of Elijah J. S. and Mary A. R. (-----) Corlew, as his second wife.[4]

On 18 Jan 1870, Jacob W. Vining of Medford, MA, petitioned the Middlesex County Probate Court for guardianship of Clarence Eugene Ramsdell, born 25 Sep 1861, son of Sarah Elizabeth Ramsdell, late of Medford, and Emery W. Ramsdell her husband, the father assenting. On the same day the petition was granted, and he posted bond of $1000. J. W. Vining then petitioned the court for permission ot sell some real estate to maintain the child. On 15 Mar 1870 he was granted license to do so, and he posted bond of $1000. On 14 Jun 1870, the guardian presented his first account. The real estate had been sold for $265.[5] Jacob Winslow Vining was Sarah Elizabeth (Vining) Ramsdell's brother.

Why he changed his name from Ramsdell to Whitney is unknown.

i. Hattie M. Whitney, b. 17 May 1888, Medford, MA;[6] d. 2 Aug 1888, Medford, MA, aged 2 month 16 days, of enterocolitis.[7]
ii. Eugene Lester Whitney, b. 20 Nov 1889, Medford, MA;[8] d. aft. 1900.
