Charles7 Whitney (Charles6, Daniel5, Daniel4, Benjamin3, John2, John1), son of Charles6 and Ruth (Chenery) Whitney,[1] was baptized 15 Jul 1810, Watertown, MA,[2] and died 1 Apr 1899, Boston, MA.[3]

He "Jr." "of Watertown" married firstly, 29 Dec 1840, Hardwick, MA, Martha G. Collins,[4] daughter of Gamaliel and Ann (Snow) Collins.[5] She was born about 1815, Hardwick, MA (calculated from census and death records),[6] and died 4 May 1869, Watertown, MA, aged 54 years, of lung fever.[7]

He "of Watertown, stone mason, aged 59, born Watertown" married secondly, 15 Mar 1870, Watertown, MA, Martha Etheridge White "of Braintree, aged 45, born Braintree",[8] daughter of Calvin and Margery (Hayward) White.[9] She was born 20 Sep 1825, Braintree, MA,[10] and died 9 Aug 1915.[11] They were married by W. Blagden, Sen. Pastor, Old South [Church, Boston].

5.^  Her death record gives her father as Gamaliel Collins of Hardwick, and wife Ann of Truro. That man had two marriages recorded in Hardwick, but his second wife, Elizabeth Billing, had died by the time of Martha's birth, and so she must have been daughter of an otherwise unknown third wife, Ann. Widow Ann Collins's death record in 1861 proves that she was Ann Snow, daughter of Daniel and Ruth (Avery) Collins. I suggest that Martha G. Collins was named for Gamaliel's deceased first wife, Martha "Patty" Gilbert, so the G would stand for Gilbert.
