Capt. Alfred C.7 Whitney (Elias Scott6, Nathan5, Benjamin4, John3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Elias Scott6 and Sarah (Godfrey) Whitney, was born 30 Sep 1835,[1] Augusta, ME, and died 5 Jan 1904, Boston, MA, aged 65 years 3 months 5 days, of progressive muscle atrophy and paralysis.[2]

He married, 22 May 1858, Boston, MA, Annie Goutier, daughter of George B. and Lucy (Battersby) Goutier.[3] She was born 20 Jun 1836 (or 19 Jun 1842, according to her tombstone),[4] Arichat, Cape Breton Island, NS, and died 16 Feb 1901, Boston, MA, aged 59 years 7 months 27 days, of chronic diffuse nephritis and diabetes, and la grippe.[5]

Alfred C. Whitney was born in Augusta, Maine, in 1835, and was educated in the public schools. When 13 he came to Boston, and has since lived there. He became connected with the Old People's ferry, now the North ferry, and for three years was its president and chairman of the board of trustees. In the war he served as chief engineer on the U.S.S. Magnolia, and later on the Powhatan. He also served for three years on the staff of Admiral Stribling of the West Gulf squadron. After the war he engaged in the towing business, and was captain of the steamer Alert for some time. Later he became master of transportation for the Bradley fertilizing company, by whom he has been employed for 26 years; resided East Boston, MA, 1 Lamson Street, and 1 Belmont Square.

ii. Harvey G. Whitney, b. 15 Sep 1862 [Pierce], or 12 Sep 1862, Boston, MA;[8] d. 22 Feb 1865 [Pierce], or 7 Feb 1865, Boston, MA, aged 2 years 4 months 27 days, of whooping cough and pneumonia.[9]
iii. William Bradley Whitney, b. 23 Aug 1871 [Pierce], or 27 Aug 1871, Boston, MA;[10] m. Emma E. Wellock.
