Family:Whitney, James S. (1827-1895)
James S.8 Whitney (John7, Oliver6, David5, Nathaniel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of John7 and Mary (Spaulding) Whitney, was born 28 Apr 1827, Ludlow, VT, and died 19 Apr 1895, Lowell, MA, aged 67 years 11 months, of an accidental fall.[1]
He married, 28 Nov 1848, Horatio D. Smith [sic], daughter of Warner M. and Mary (Bellows) Smith. She was born about 1822, Burrillville, RI, and died 18 Apr 1901, Lowell, MA, aged 78 years, of arteriosclerosis.[2]
He resided 101 Chapel street, Lowell, MA.

i. James L.9 Whitney, b. 20 Oct 1851, Lowell, MA;[3] apparently died before 1856. ii. James D. Whitney, b. 27 Mar 1856, Lowell, MA;[4] d. 23 Jun 1862, Lowell, MA, aged 6 years 2 months 24 days, of croup.[5] iii. Estelle L. Whitney, b. 18 Jan 1862, Lowell, MA;[6] d. after 1900, then unmarried.
