6511 I. John Swain Whitney, b. at North East Harbor, Nova Scotia, 21 Jan. 1837; a machinist and engineer; married at Peekskill, N.Y., 5 July 1865, by Rev. William C. Smith, Methodist Episcopal, to Pauline Garrison, who was born at Peekskill, 13 Oct. 1839, dau. of Beverly and Sophia (Swim) Garrison. He left his home in Nova Scotia, in 1855; dwelt at Cold Spring, N.Y., till 1863; and then moved to Peekskill, where they were living in Sept. 1874. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, at Brooklyn, N.Y., 18 Aug. 1864; served on the Santiago de Cuba, taking part in the capture of Fort Fisher; and was discharged 16 June 1865. 14443
6512 II. Thorndike Soames Whitney, b. at North East Harbor, Nova Scotia, 15 Oct. 1839; a joiner; married at Guysborough, N. S., 4 Nov. 1864, Jeannette Kirby, who was born at Canso, N. S., 15 Oct. 1839, dau. of John Coleman and Mary Ann (Jamieson) Kirby. She died at North East Harbor, 25 Feb. 1865. He married (2d), 3 Ap. 1867, at Guysborough, Eunice Letitia Jamieson, who was born at Halfway Cove, N. S., 9 Feb. 1844, dau. of John and Hannah Elizabeth (Kirby) Jamieson. They settled at Canso, and were living there in 1874. 14447

Joshua Swain Whitney, b. at North East Harbor, Nova Scotia, 20 July 1842; a carpenter and joiner; married at North East Harbor, 1 Jan. 1867, Julia Matilda Swain, dau. of Chapman and Hannah (King) Swain, of North East Harbor, where she was born 16 Nov. 1846. They settled at Canso, N. S., and were living there in 1874. 14451

Hart, Wesleyan Methodist, to Hannah Emma Jones Swain, who was born at North East Harbor, 23 March 1845, dau. of Capt. Nathan and Mary Elizabeth (King) Swain. He settled at North East Harbor, and was living there in 1874. 14453
