Ransom8 Whitney (Joseph7, Abel6, Benjamin5, Joseph4, Joseph3, Jonathan2, John1), son of Joseph7 and Caroline (Pierce) Whitney, was born 24 Jun 1849 (but Pierce says 24 Jun 1844), Tunbridge, VT,[1] and died 23 Dec 1903, Haverhill, MA, aged 54 years, of suicide by hanging.[2]

He married firstly, 1 Feb 1870, Lebanon, NH, Sarah B. (Johnston) Clark,[3] daughter of John and Sarah B. Johnston. She was born about 1843, Sunapee, NH, and died after 1880. She had married firstly, ----- Clark, of whom nothing is known.

He married secondly, 8 Apr 1893, Rockingham, VT, Frances L. (Williams) Havens, daughter of Abijah and Emma (Stearns) Williams. She was born about 1855, Claremont, NH, and died before 1903. She had married firstly, after 1870, ----- Havens, of whom nothing is known.

He married thirdly, 25 Sep 1903, Providence, RI, Caroline Louise (Jones) Patch, dau. of Isaac and Harriet Newhall (Marrow) Jones.[4] She was born Apr 1858, Manchester, ME. She had married firstly, 29 May 1882, Winthrop, ME, George F. Patch. She married thirdly, 2 Feb 1905, Haverhill, MA, Albert Richardson;[5] they were divorced. She "Carrie L." married fourthly, 3 Aug 1907, Stoneham, MA, George H. Smith, b. ca. 1852, Ludlow, VT, son of Arza and Catharine (Eaton) Smith.[6]

He resided Tunbridge and Cavendish, VT, Lebanon, Pittsfield, and Claremont, NH, and Mansfield and Haverhill, MA.
