John J.9 Whitney (John Dudley8, Jonathan7, Jonathan6, Joseph5, Benjamin4, Joseph3, John2, John1), son of John Dudley8 and Elizabeth (Doughty) Whitney, was born about 1826, Roxbury, MA, and died 30 Nov 1875, Waltham, MA, of pneumonia.[1] His age at death is listed as 52 years, 6 months which would make his birth c. May 1823. This date, however, is prior to his parents marriage.

He married firstly, before 1845, ----- -----. Nothing is known of her, except she must have died before 1859.

He married secondly, 28 Jul 1859, Westford, MA,[2] Mary Elizabeth (Hatch) Freeborn, daughter of Jethro and Catherine (----) Hatch. She was born c. Aug 1823, Wiscasset, ME and d. 14 Nov 1894, Waltham, MA, of senile change.[3] She married first John Freeborn, b. St. John's, New Brunswick. They had three known children, James H. b. c. 1845, John Theodore b. c. 1848, and Mary b. 8 Feb 1853, Watertown, MA.[4]
