Jump to navigationJump to searchDennis6 Whitney (Samuel5, Eliakim4, Nathan3, John2, Henry1), son of Samuel5 and Elizabeth (Wright) Whitney, was born 6 Dec 1783, Stillwater, NY, and died 9 Apr 1865, West Bloomfield, NY.
He married, 17 Mar 1811, Richmond, NY, Elizabeth Betsey Henderson, daughter of James and Mary (Pollock) Henderson. She was born 17 Nov 1791, Northumberland, PA, and died 8 Aug 1853, Royalton Center, NY.
Phoenix says the following:
- Dennis Whitney, b. at Stillwater, now Malta, N. Y., 6 Dec. 1783; a cabinet-maker and farmer; married, 17 March 1811, at Allen's Hill, Richmond, N. Y., Elizabeth Betsey Henderson, dau. of James and Mary (Pollock) Henderson, early settlers of Richmond, from Northumberland, Penn., where she was born 17 Nov. 1791. They dwelt at Allen's Hill till 1840, and then settled at Royalton Centre, N. Y., where she died 8 Aug. 1853, and was buried two miles north of there, in Green Mountain Cemetery. He died, 9 Ap. 1865, at the house of his daughter, Mrs. Genette (Whitney) Hill, in West Bloomfield, N. Y., and was buried at Allen's Hill. His wife was afterward removed to the same cemetery. They were communicants of the Protestant Episcopal Church, and their children also. Dennis Whitney, and his brothers, Charles and Lyman, are said to be the originals of "the Martins," in Allerton Parish, a Sunday-school novel, by Rev. John Norton, D. D.

Minerva Whitney, b. 19 Apr 1818, Richmond, NY; m. Augustus Lee Whedon. v. Beachgood Whitney, b. 18 Jun 1820, Richmond, NY; m. Betsey Elizabeth Bennett. vi. Altia Whitney, b. 5 May 1822, Richmond, NY; m. James Bowdoin Southworth. vii. Edwin Henderson Whitney, b. 5 Aug 1826, Richmond, NY; m.(1) Olive Susan Ford; m.(2) Jennie Dodge. viii. Ellen Mehetabel Whitney, b. 5 Aug 1826, Richmond, NY; m. Edwin Mosher. ix. Dennis Whitney, b. 7 Aug 1828 (twin), Richmond, NY; m. 11 May 1854, Lockport, NY, Helen Marion Butrick, dau. of Riley Porter and Emily (Hobbs) Butrick, formerly of Bergen, NY, where she was born 26 May 1833. He was a dealer in real-estate. He dwelt in Lockport from 1848 to 1856; in Clinton County, IA, till 1 Jan. 1860; at De Witt, IA, till 20 Oct. 1871; at Chicago, IL., till 6 July 1872; at Lansing, MI, till 1 Feb. 1873; and then returned to De Witt, where he was living in 1874, without children. x. William Whitney, b. 7 Aug 1828 (twin), Richmond, NY; m. Catharine Reasoner.
