Rufus Foster8 Whitney (Samuel Austin7, Hananiah6, Samuel5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Samuel Austin7 and Sarah S. (Foster) Whitney, was born about 17 Feb 1836, Winchendon, MA, and died 6 Jul 1887, Winchendon, MA, aged 51 years 4 months 19 days, of organic disease of brain.[1]

He married, 26 Nov 1863, Templeton, MA, Hannah E. Demary,[2] daughter of James L. and Esther P. (Page) Demary. She was born Feb 1845, Rindge, NH, and died 28 Aug 1902, Winchendon, MA, aged 58 years, of delirium hyperstatic pneumonia. She married secondly, 1 Oct 1891, VT, Ekron M. Baker.

i. William Thomas9 Whitney, b. 29 Jul 1861, Winchendon, MA; m. Nellie Carroll. Despite his birth before their marriage, his own marriage record states that his parents were Rufus and Hannah.
ii. Nettie M. Whitney, b. Dec 1865, Winchendon, MA; m. 1 Jan 1882, Winchendon, MA, Willard A. Davis, b. ca. 1859, Jericho, VT, son of Lysander and Maria (-----) Davis.[3]
iii. Addison S. Whitney, b. ca. 1870, Winchendon, MA; m. Emma F. Dodge.
iv. Charles R. Whitney, b. Sep 1875, Winchendon, MA; m. 23 Dec 1903, Revere, MA, Emma G. (LaClair) Pickett, b. ca. 1876, Pindge, NH, dau. of Eugene and Louise (Moresett) LaClair.[4]
v. Perley Ellsworth Whitney, b. 3 Jul 1883, Winchendon, MA;[5] "Pearl" d. 10 Feb 1938, Detroit, MI; unmarried.
