The death records of sons Elisha, Daniel, Francis, and William, and daughter Mary Ann, all give their mother's maiden name as Parker, not Mills.  The records of the other children by his second wife do not give any maiden name.  Sally's death record gives no maiden name help.  One possibility is that Sally's mother Sarah (Fuller) Mills may have remarried a man named Parker, although no record of that has been found.  No record has been found of any Sally Parker marrying a Mills, or any Sally Mills marrying a Parker.  The explanation for all of this is not apparent.  Notice that Sally's mother was born Elizabeth Parker.

Israel6 Whitney (Daniel5, Daniel4, Benjamin3, John2, John1), son of Daniel5 and Mary (Harrington) Whitney,[1] was born 14 Aug 1782, Watertown, MA,[2] baptized 25 Aug 1782, Watertown, MA,[3] and died 12 Feb 1849, Marlborough, MA, aged 66 years 5 months 28 days, of rheumatic fever.[4]

Intentions of marriage were published 5 Dec 1807, Watertown, MA, for him and his first wife Sally Bernard.[5] He married firstly, 12 Jan 1808, Watertown, MA, Sally Barnard,[6] daughter of James and Sarah (Fuller) Barnard.[7] She was born 31 May 1789, Watertown, MA,[8] and died before 14 Feb 1817, Watertown, MA.[9]

Intentions of marriage were published 29 Apr 1815, Watertown, MA, for him and his second wife Sally Mills.[10] He married secondly, 8 Jun 1815, Needham, MA, Sally Mills,[11] daughter of Hezekiah and Elizabeth (Parker) Mills.[12] She was born 23 Oct 1784, Needham, MA,[13], and died 27 Jan 1871, Marlborough, MA, aged 87 years, of old age.[14]

On 30 Nov 1801, Watertown, MA, Israel Whitney and Dorothy Whitney, minors over 14, chose Nathaniel R. Whitney as guardian.[15]

On 19 Feb 1814, Sally, wife of Israel Whitney, was admitted to full communion, Watertown, MA.[16]

"On 14 Feb 1817, a petition was filed that a guardian be appointed for Sarah Bernard Whitney and Mary Ann Whitney, both children of the petitioner, Israel Whitney, and deceased wife Sally.

"On 14 Feb 1817, Israel Whitney, yeoman, of Watertown, was appointed guardian of Sarah Bernard and Mary Ann Whitney, minors under 21, and posted bond with Nathaniel R. Whitney and Tyler Bigelow, Esqs., of Watertown, as sureties.

"26 May 1817, sale of land from the estate of James Beranrd and wife Sarah in Watertown."[17]

Children of Israel6 and Sally (Bernard) Whitney:

i. Sarah Barnard7 Whitney, bapt. 19 Feb 1814, Watertown, MA;[18] d. 14 Aug 1873, Hudson, MA, aged 63 years, of cancer.[19]

Notes
