Abel4 Whitney (Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Nathaniel3 and Sarah (Ford) Whitney, was born 23 Jul 1712, York, ME,[1] and died before Sep 1762.[2]. Abel was a weaver by trade.
Abel married 12 Nov 1735, York, ME, Mary Cane, daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Parsons) Cane. She was born 19 Jan 1714/15, York, ME, and died about 1794, Gorham, ME. She married secondly, 10 Jun 1763, Samuel Haley Crockett, who died 19 Dec 1798, Gorham, ME. She and Samuel are buried in the Old Village Cemetery in Gorham, ME, however, no gravestone for Mary is found. Her burial there is from the records of Isaac Cobb.
From McClellan's History of Gorham: "Abel Whitney died before September, 1762, for at that time his widow Mary received a deed from Barnabas Bangs of a part of the thirty acre lot, 81. Mrs. Mary Whitney married second, June 10, 1763, Samuel Crockett."
