One of the earliest southern Whitney families was founded by Joshua Whitney who came from Bermuda to Isle of Wight Co., VA and finally to Edgecombe Co., NC. His son Elijah was most likely the father of Hiram Whitney of Garrard Co., KY, Warren Co., KY & Trigg Co., KY. Francis Whitney may have been the same man as the Francis Whitney of Orangeburg South Co., SC.

Francis Whitney of Orangeburg South Co., SC was probably the father or other relative of Francis Whitney of Orangeburg South Co., SC and Samuel Whitney of Orangeburg South Co., SC. Isaac L. Whitney of Orangeburg Co., SC, Blount Co., AL, & Indian Territory and his brother Hiram Whitney of SC & Walker Co,AL probably belong to this branch as they were first found in Orangeburg. DNA testing shows that they were probably related to the Samuel Whitney of Bermuda branch, potentially tying the Orangeburg branch to the Joshua Whitney branch.

Daniel Whitney of Lexington Co., SC & Barnwell Co., SC. DNA testing by a descendant of Daniel's son, Darling, is a DNA match to Samuel Whitney of Bermuda.
