I believe I can identify your great-great-grandfather Oscar Whitney. I believe him to be identical to Oscar Wallace Whitney, born 25 Mar 1850, Fairfield, VT. For information about him, see this page. If that is correct, his father's family group page is located here. There you will find the census record for 1880 from Jamestown, Ottawa Co., MI, of Oscar, wife Amy, and sons George E. and Henry H. From there you can trace your lineage back to Henry1 Whitney (say 1615 - 1673), immigrant to Long Island, NY, and Norwalk, CT.
