Sarah4 Whitney (Richard3, Richard2, John1), daughter of Richard3 and Elizabeth (Sawtell) Whitney, was born between 1 Mar 1703/4 and 28 Feb 1704/5 at Stow, MA, calculated from age on guardianship bond.
Marriage intentions were published 28 Mar 1724 at Stow, MA, for her and Capt. Hezekiah Hapgood,[1] son of Nathaniel and Elizabeth (Ward) Hapgood. He was born in 1699, Stow, MA, and died 13 May 1768, Stow, MA.
On 29 Feb 1723/4, Stow, MA, Richard Whitney of Stow, husbandman, appointed guardian of Joshua Whitney, in his 16th year, and Sarah Whitney, in her 20th year.
Pierce says the following:[2]
- SARAH [WHITNEY], b. in 1703; m. 1723, Capt. Hezekiah HAPGOOD. They res. in Stow, Mass. He was a prominent citizen; tythingman in 1726, selectman 1741-2 and 53. Was captain in the French and Indian wars. Ch.: Ephraim, b. 1725; Jonathan, colonel, m. Ruth WOLCOTT and Mrs. Sarah WHITNEY, whom he m. Oct. 5, 1785; Capt. Hezekiah's will was proved July 19, 1768.
Children of Capt. Hezekiah and Sarah4 (Whitney) Hapgood, both born Stow, MA:
i. Ephraim Hapgood, b. 21 Apr 1725; m. Rebecca Gibson. ii. Jonathan Hapgood, b. circa 1727; m.(1) Ruth Walcutt; m.(2) Sarah Whitney.
