Jump to navigationJump to searchRichard Whitney (John, John), son of John and Joan (Goodchild) Whitney, of Islip, Oxfordshire. Named in the wills of his father, and of his wife's father. His own, dated 15 May 1603, was proved 26 Jun 1603. Buried at Islip, 21 May 1608. Had land in Oakley, co. Buckingham, which he entailed upon his son John, the elder.
He married Alice Stappe, daughter of John Stappe, of Pitchcott, in Buckinghamshire. Named in her father's will, 1601, and in that of her husband. She was buried 31 May 1631, Islip, Oxfordshire.
Children:
i. John Whitney, "the elder," of Islip; named in the wills of his grandfather Stappe, and of his father, who settled upon him land in Oakley, in Buckinghamshire. -- (The Parish Register of Oakley begins in 1654.) He m. Mary -----. Children: a. Leonard Wittney, bapt. 2 Oct 1615, Islip.
ii. John Whitney, "the younger," named in the will of his grandfather Stappe, and in that of his father to succeed to the land in Oakley, should his brother John died without male issue. He was probably born in the year 1589, shortly before the earliest date in the Parish Register of Islip, which is in 1590. [Note: The chart identifies his as supposedly the immigrant John Whitney, which is now known to be incorrect.] iii. Thomas Whitney, bapt. 14 Sep 1592, Islip; bur. 10 Jan 1592/3, Islip. Parish Register begins 1593. No baptisms of Whitney recorded 1599 to 1635. iv. Richard Whitney, bapt. 17 Nov 1593, Islip; bur. 26 Oct 1597, Islip. (Not that Richard who had son John bapt. 10 Nov 1631, Little Missenden, Oxfordshire?) v. Anne Whitney, named in her father's will, and in the will of her grandfather Stappe; m. 26 Sep 1624, Islip, Francis Franklin. vi. Alice Whitney, bapt. 13 Jul 1599, Islip; named in the wills of her grandfather Stappe, and her father; m. 30 Apr 1626, Islip, Robert Marchand.
