Phinehas Gorton⁸ Whitney (Phinehas⁷, Phinehas⁶, Joshua⁵, Nathaniel⁴, Nathaniel³, John², John¹), son of Phinehas⁷ and Martha (Mattison) Whitney, was born about 24 Apr 1819, Herkimer Co., NY, and died 2 Jul 1867, Herkimer Co., NY. He was buried in Barringer Road Cemetery, Ilion, NY.^[1]

He married, say 1842, Angeline -----. She was born about 17 Jul 1822, Herkimer Co., NY, and died 22 Dec 1875, Herkimer Co., NY. She was buried in Barringer Road Cemetery, Ilion, NY.^[2] She probably married secondly, Lewis Kitts. The only record of this last-mentioned marriage is the inscription on her gravestone: "ANGELINE | WIFE OF | Phineas G. Whitney. | & LATE WIFE OF | Lewis Kitts. | Died Dec. 22, 1875. | AGE 53 yrs 5 ms & 5 ds." Perhaps there was a divorce, since on 1 Jun 1875, Lewis Kitts had a wife Mary.

He resided Frankfort and German Flatts, NY.
