John Whitney (John), son of John and Ellen (-----) Whitney. He was executor of his father's will. Named in the will of his wife's mother. His own, dated at Henton, in the parish of Chinnor, co. of Oxford, Dec. 20, 1575, was proved at Oxford, Mar. 10, 1575-6. Mentions his cousin, Thomas Whitney. His father bequeathed to him his part of a farm, that he held in connection with his son-in-law, John Browne. (Quere: Was this farm in Chinnor?)

He married Joan Goodchild, daughter of ----- and Johan Goodchild, of Chinnor. Named in her mother's will, dated Oct. 4, 1544; also in her husband's will.

They were probably the couple mentioned in Chancery suit C 1/1003/8-9, "Robert HARE, Isabel his wife, John WITNEY, Joan his wife, William Edersegge and Alice his wife, v. William CHAPMAN.: Goods and a messuage and land in Haddenham, late of Richard Mynge, deceased, brother of the female complainants. (The answer includes a schedule of goods.): BUCKS, 1538-1544".

They were probably the couple mentioned in the Star Chamber suit STAC 2/17/379, "PLAINTIFF: The Attorney General DEFENDANT: John Wytney, Joan his wife, Geoffrey Stephyns, John Tame, John Stephyns, Stephen Gower, and others PLACE OR SUBJECT: Forcible entry upon two messuages and lands in the tenure of John Newman, of Chinnor COUNTY: Oxford, 22/04/1509-28/01/1547"

He was probably the man involved in the Star Chamber suit STAC 2/19/139, "PLAINTIFF: Henry Bradshawe DEFENDANT: John Wytney, Geoffrey Stephyns, John Tame, and John Stephyns PLACE OR SUBJECT: Forcible entry COUNTY: Oxford, 22/04/1509-28/01/1547".
