James5 Whitney (James4, John3, Jonathan2, John1), son of Dea. James4 and Martha (Rice) Whitney, was born 4 Jun 1718, Framingham, MA,[1] and died 3 Jan 1754, Sherborn, MA,[2].
He "of Framingham" married, 18 Mar 1741/2, Sherborn, MA, Patience Leland "of Sherborn",[3] daughter of Joseph and Esther (Thurston) Leland. She was born 26 May 1722, Sherborn, MA, and is said to have died in 1778, Orange, MA. She "widow" "of Sherborn" married secondly, 13 May 1759, Uxbridge, MA, Dea. Joseph Damon "of Uxbridge".[4] She married thirdly, 13 Feb 1766, Sherborn, MA, Jonathan Woodward.
On 12 Mar 1754, Sherborn, MA, his inventory was taken by Benjamin Bullard, Richard Sanger, and Joseph Twitchel. On 18 Mar 1754, Sherborn, MA, administration bond was posted by Patience Whitney, widow of James Whitney, Jr., late of Sherborn, with Joseph Twitchel, yeoman, and Joseph Lealand, yeoman, of Sherborn, as sureties, as administratrix of her late husband's estate. On 24 Oct 1757, Sherborn, MA, an administration account was recorded. On 30 Mar 1764, Sherborn, MA, an order was recorded of appointment of Caleb Lealand, Joseph Twitchel, and John Morse as a committee to settle the estate among the heirs. On 26 May 1764, Sherborn, MA, a petition was made by Patience Damon and John Whitney that division be made to widow Patience Deming for her dower thirds, and the rest to the only son of the deceased, John Whitney. On 18 Sep 1764, Sherborn, MA, division was made, the estate being given to the son John Whitney, cordwainer, of Sherborn, he to pay shares to his sisters Martha, Abigail, and Patience Whitney.

On 2 Apr 1764, Sherborn, MA, Jonathan Twitchel, yeoman, of Sherborn, was appointed guardian of Patience Whitney, daughter of James Whitney, late of Sherborn, deceased, and posted bond wiht Jesse Morse, yeoman, of Sherborn, as surety.
