Luther⁸ Whitney (Luther⁷, Luther⁶, Daniel⁵, Daniel⁴, Jonathan³, Jonathan², John¹), son of Luther⁷ and Louisa Amelia (Wood) Whitney, was born 16 Dec 1843, Chillicothe, OH, and died 2 Mar 1921, Toledo, OH.

He married, 27 Dec 1869, Toledo, OH, Mary Jane Shaw, daughter of Isaac and Sarah (-----) Shaw. She was born 10 Aug 1849, Manchester, England, and died 2 Aug 1927, Toledo, OH.

He served in the Civil War, Co. F, 1st Ohio Cavarly. He enlisted 13 Feb 1864, and was discharged 4 Mar 1865, Carlisle Barracks, PA, for disability, as a Sergeant. He had grey eyes, light hair, and light complexion, height 5' 7-1/2".
