Family:Whitney, Ebenezer M. (1845-1909)
Ebenezer M.9 Whitney (Ebenezer T.8, Otis7, Solomon6, Solomon5, Nathaniel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Ebenezer T.8 and Mary W. (Fogg) Whitney, was born Sep 1845, Campton, NH, and died 24 Oct 1909, Gilford, NH, aged 65 years, of cancer of the stomach.[1]
He married, 20 Nov 1870, Gilford, NH, Alma O. Steele.[2] She was born Apr 1851, Thornton, NH, and died 21 Feb 1913, Gilford, NH. According to her death record, her parents were Henry O. Doane and Nancy Steele, but that couple were married in 1861, so it appears that Alma was born out of wedlock to Nancy Steele, daughter of John Steele, paternity unknown.
He appears in the 1890 Census of Civil War Veterans and Widows, in Gilford, Belknap Co., NH, which reveals that he served as a Private in Company I, 6th Regiment, New Hampshire Infantry, discharged Jul 1865. The Civil War Soldiers System confirms that "Eben M. Whitney" did so.[3] One of the same name, possibly him, served in Company A, 14th U.S. Infantry. He enlisted 31 Oct 1861, Thornton, NH, giving his age as 18. Also "Ebin M. Whitney" served in the 5th Regiment, U.S. Artillery.
