He married, 10 Jun 1920, Springfield, MO, Lucile Finkel, b. 30 Dec 1894, Kidder, MO, daughter of Benjamin Franklin Finkel and Hannah Cokeley, d. 29 Jan 1991, Harpers Ferry, WV.
He was a Professor of Accounting/Business Administration at Florida Southern College and University of Alabama.

Beatrice Louise11 Whitney, b. 16 Apr 1926, Cleveland, OH; d. 31 Dec 2017, Shepherdstown, WV; m. 23 Feb 1946, Cuyahoga, OH, Robert Bryant, b. 8 Jun 1925, Oxford, OH, d. 15 May 2013, Shepherdstown, WV. They had four daughters. ii. David Gwin Whitney, b. 28 Oct 1927, Cleveland, OH; d. 5 Sep 1984, Redlands, CA; m. 23 Jul 1960, Palos Verdes, CA, Mrs. Geraldine Marie (O'Brien) Murphy. She was b. 6 Nov 1920, Brooklyn, NY, daughter of Sylvester Mulvehill O'Brien and Veronica Geraldine Hackett, d. 20 Mar 2019, Laguna Niguel, CA. Dave adopted 7 of the 10 children that Gerry had from a previous marriage. They had two children of their own.
