"Kamehameha II's reign is memorable for the introduction of Christianity into the Islands with the advent in 1820 of the first contingent of Congregational missionaries from Boston, Rev. Hiram Bingham, Rev. Asa Thurston, Dr. Thomas Holman, Daniel Chamberlain, Samuel Whitney, Samuel Ruggles, Elisha Loomis, and their families."
