He was a farmer but was admitted to the bar in 1898. He married in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 9 Aug. 1905, Bessie Holly Boyd, born 16 Aug. 1880, died in Vinton, Iowa, 20 June 1950, daughter of Willoughby Watson Boyd by his wife Nellie M. Richey.
