Mr. Whitney had been adopted by the younger Samuel Miller, and came into possession of the estate thereby. They have had 3 chn.:

He was a chair maker by trade and lived in the house which stood opposite the residence of J. F. Kellon, many years ago destroyed by fire. The later years of his life were spent in Ash., where he d. May 4, 1873, a. 66. His wid. d. Sept. 1, 1882, a. 67. They had:

He was a chair maker, and with a Mr. Ray started the business of getting out chair stock, in a mill located on a small stream west of the present dwelling of Eugene Gates. He went from W. to Gr., and thence to Ash., where he d. Feb. 9, 1879, a. 79. His w. d. May 4, 1861, a. 60, and he m. - Wilbur F. Whitney9 (71), of the above family,

- is one of the most intelligent enterprising, public-spirited, and highly-esteemed men of the neighboring town of Ash., as he is also one of its largest and most successful manufacturers. He interests himself in whatever is conducive to the welfare and happiness of the community, and shares to a very large extent the esteem and confidence of his fellow-townspeople. He has served as a member of the Sch. Com. several years, has represented the district in the Gen. Ct., and is a Director of the National Bank. He has manifested a commendable interest in the history of his native town, has furnished much desirable information for the pages of this work, and otherwise contributed to whatever of success may characterize it. It is in recognition of his services in this behalf, and of the honor which his character and personal worth reflect upon the place of his nativity, that space is cheerfully given in this work for a fac simile of himself.
