WHITNEY OF MERTON.
WHITNEY, THOMAS-ANNESLEY, Esq. of Merton, co. Wexford, J.P., b. 25 Oct. 1794; m. 16 March, 1825, Julia, dau. of Luke Gaven, Esq., and had issue,
- I. Mary-Elizabeth, m. to Alexander-William Gordon, major 61st regt., eldest son of Gen. Gordon, of the engineers, and d. 14 Dec.l862.
- II. Alice-Julia, m. to the Rev. Arthur Eden, eldest son of the Hon. and Rev. William Eden, by his wife, Lady Grey de Ruthyn.
- III. Amelia-Sarah, m. to Henry-Alexander Heuetson, Esq, only son of the late Dr. Heuetson, of co. Wexford.
Lineage. — LUKE WHITNEY, Esq. (descended from Sir Robert Whitney, whose eldest son, Thomas, m. a dau. of William Cope, Esq. of Icombe), m. 1743; d. 1764, and left, by his wife, Margaret, who d. 1752, a son and heir, THOMAS-WHITNEY, Esq. of Merton, who m. 1790, and d. 4 Feb. 1831, leaving (by his wife, Alithea, who d. 13 Oct. 1835) an only surviving son, the present THOMAS-ANNESLEY WHITNEY, Esq., now of Merton.
- Arms— Az., a cross chequy, or and sa.
- Crest— A bull's head, couped, sa., armed, arg.,the points, gu.
- Seat— Merton, Enniscorthy, co. Wexford.
Note
Luke Whitney could not have been a descendant of Sir Robert Whitney as stated above. His male line descendants ended with the death of son Thomas in 1670. --RLW
