Aunt Sate (?) to Hugh Monticello and Mathilda Caroline 'Tillie' (Heberlein) Whitney, 10 July 1890.
Canaseraga Sunday July 10 1890 My Dear Hugh & Tillie I can find no words to express our deep heart felt sympathy in your sad bereavement, Dear little Mabel gone, may God pitty and comfort you and he surely will all his afflicted ones. May he spare the rest of dear little one to you. We feel more than anxious to hear all the peticulars regarding your loss and how the rest are going through if they are sick with the terrible disease We are so thankfull you got home in time to be there with the poor Mother and know how bitterly you will be disapointed if Fannie can not come to your sad home no more than she will be for I hardly think she will dare to come much as she will wish to be with you in this dark hour, for fear of carrying the dread disease to her own little brood have just read a letter from her in which she tells of anticipating such a good visit with your dear family soon as they are better- poor child my heart aichs so for the over throw of all your bright anticipations. But Gods ways are not ours yet he doeth all things best. Hard as we find it to believe nor does he willingly afflict his children Hard Oh so hard to bow the head and say not our will but thine be done. With the vacant place in heart and home. Yet who of us be ever so fortunate that would be willing the dear little feet should have to travel in lifes journey the roughf pathway of hopes & fears sorrow and tears that has been meted out to each of us God in his goodness and wisdom has spared Dear little Mabell all that. Think of her sheltered from every care and sorrow a bright and happy spirit in the better land where no partings are Oh the meetings think of her happy with your own dear Mother how gladly she welcomed her little grandchild to the celestial city for we shall know each other there. Look up and be comforted my dear children the bitter parting will not be for long. Your cruel loss is your darlings gain one less on earth one more to draw your aichin hearts to- ward Heaven I know how cold and empty all words of sympathy I can give can seam to you yet my heart is bursting with love sorrow and sympathy for you and if Prayrs can help or comfort you rest assured you have those of your affectionate Aunt Sate Lida joins in sending love and sympathy to cousin Hugh and family
