John3 Whitney (Benjamin2, John1), son of Benjamin2 and Jane (-----) Whitney;[1] born about 1678, York, ME;[2] died after 1739.[3]
He married firstly, about 1703, York, ME, Letty/Lettice/Lettes Ford,[4] daughter of John and Joanna (Andrews)(Searle) Ford. [5] She was born about 1680, probably at Kittery, ME,[6] and died before 1730, probably at Kittery, ME.[7]
Marriage intentions were published 3 Oct 1730, Kittery, ME, for him and Anne Bratt "of Biddeford,"[8] but there is no indication that the marriage actually took place.
He married secondly (with intentions 26 Dec 1730) 14 Jan 1730/31, Kittery, ME, Susannah (Barton) Smith,[9] parentage and birth unknown. She died after 1739.[10] She had married on 16 Sep 1718 at Wells, ME, Solomon Smith,[11] by whom she had a daughter Rebecca Smith, born 28 Mar 1723, Biddeford, ME.[12]
He had a 20 acre grant in 1714 (York); lived near Braveboat Harbor, 1724; at Kittery 1732. He settled in 1739 at New Meadows, ME.[13]

Mehitable Whitney; b. circa 1715, probably Kittery, ME;[22] Marriage banns for her and Stephen Amme were published 6 Sep 1735, Kittery, ME, both "of Kittery;"[23] marriage banns for her and Isaac Wincoll were published 2 Apr 1737, Kittery, ME; both "of Kittery."[24] - She Two marriage intentions are shown in the VR's of Kittery for a Mehittable Whitney, one dated 20 Sep 1735 to a Stephen Amme, both of Kittery; and one dated 2 Apr 1737 to a Isaac Wincoll, both of Kittery. No actual marriage is recorded in the Whitney Extracts for Kittery.
vii. John Whitney; b. 4 May 1719, York, ME; b. 14 May 1719, York, ME; Marriage banns for him and Elizabeth Foy were published 22 Jan 1742/43, Kittery, ME.[25] - He recognized his baptismal covenant.
