Samuel Franklin⁷ Whitney (John Merrick⁶, James Rex⁵, Caleb⁴, William³, Joshua², John¹), son of John Merrick⁶ and Clarissa (Montgomery) Whitney; born Fayette, Mississippi, Aug. 19 1827; married 13 Dec 1854, Mattie Emanuel, born Virginia. He died Sep. 5, 1866; resided Grand Gulf, Mississippi.

i.	Sims Emanuel8 Whitney, born 1858.
ii.	Bayard Whitney, born 1859; died 1859.
iii.	Mary Lelia Whitney, born 14 Sep 1861; married Dr. T. Ritchie Stone; resided Washington, District of Columbia.
iv.	Mattie Franklin Whitney, born 1866.
