George⁸ Whitney (Joshua⁷, Joshua⁶, Thomas⁵, William⁴, William³, Joshua², John¹), son of Joshua⁷ and Rhoda (Jewell) Whitney; born at Binghamton, New York, 12 Aug 1801; married 25 Jul 1824, Sophia Silk Evans, born Kidderminster, England, 28 May 1806, died 22 Mar 1886. He died 27 Jun 1863; resided Chenango, New York.

Children of George⁸ and Sophia Silk (Evans) Whitney:

i.	May Elizabeth9 Whitney, born 1 Jul 1825; married 24 Jul 1846, Charles White. She died s. p., Honesdale, Pennsylvania, 19 Jun 1847.
ii.	William Henry Whitney, born 10 Jul 1827; married Julia Clarissa Freeman.
iii.	Sophia Whitney, born 10 May 1830; married 8 Jan 1857, Dr. Thomas Webb. She died 24 Feb 1860, at Binghamton, New York. He was grad. at the Geneva Med. college.
iv.	Jane Whitney, born 18 Apr 1833; married 26 Mar 1859, Oliver Orby Keeler; died 31 Oct 1875, at Port Dickinson, New York.
v.	James Evans Whitney, born 18 Jan 1836; married Alice M. Angell.
vi.	George Whitney, born 12 Feb 1839; married Flora A. Paddock and M. Louise Stoddard.
vii.	Thomas Waterman Whitney, born 18 Jun 1840; was a jeweler; died unmarried 3 Apr 1887.
viii.	Franklin Whitney, born 30 Oct 1844; died 24 Nov 1844.
ix.	Rhoda Whitney, born 11 Jan 1847; unmarried; resided Binghamton.
