Family:Whitney, James (1799-1858)

James⁶ Whitney (Samuel⁵, Abraham⁴, Joseph³, John², Henry¹), son of Samuel⁵ and Anne (Guire) Whitney, was born 28 Jun 1799, St. John, NB, and died 10 Jul 1858, St. John, NB.

He married, 2 Feb 1826, St. John, NB, Henrietta Alexis Williams, daughter of Thomas and Anna Maria (-----) Williams. She was born 22 Aug 1805, Annapolis, NS, and died 26 Jul 1873, Sussex Vale, NB.

Phoenix says the following:

". . . a shipping merchant . . . . He . . . was buried in St John. She . . . was buried in the Church of England burying-ground in St John."

Charlotte Gibbons7 Whitney, b. 20 Sep 1839, St. John, NB; m. Apr 1858, St. John, NB, Watkin Owen Pell Smith, a physician. They settled in New York City. She died, without children, at St. John, 22 Jan. 1860, and was buried in the cemetery of the Church of England. After her death, he removed to St. George's Island, Bermudas, where he was living in 1874.
