Jonathan Rasselas⁶ Whitney (Samuel Platt⁵, Uriah⁴, Nathan³, John², Henry¹), son of Samuel Platt⁵ and Martha (Hart)(Owen) Whitney, was born 30 Jun 1804, East Granville, NY, and died 1 Oct 1886. FindAGrave Memorial 159721328.

Marriage intentions were published 26 Aug 1827, Granville, MA, for him and Maria L. Moore.^[1] He married firstly, 19 Sep 1827, Torrington, CT, Maria Louise Moore,^[2] daughter of Elihu and Hannah (Soper) Moore. She was born 18 Jul 1809, Torringford, CT, and died 15 Aug 1842, Montville, OH.

He marries secondly, 29 Sep 1842, Freedom, OH, Jane Culver, daughter of Miles Culver. She was born 9 Dec 1819, Chippewa, OH, and died after 1900.

Phoenix says the following:

Jonathan Rasselas Whitney, b. at East Granville, Mass., 30 June 1804; a shoemaker; lived in Granby, Conn., from the Spring of 1819 to the Autumn of 1820, and at Tolland, Mass., till Sept. 1827, and then went to Torringford, Conn., where he married, 16 Sept. 1827, Maria Louisa Moors, dau. of Elihu and Hannah (Soper) Moore, of Torringford, where she was born 18 July 1809. They left Torringford, 4 May 1828, and settled at Montville, Ohio, where she died, 15 Aug. 1842. He married (2d), at Freedom, Ohio, 29 Sept. 1842, Jane Culver, of Freedom, who was born at Chippewa, Ohio, 9 Dec. 1819, dau. of Miles Culver. He has been a travelling preacher of the Wesleyan Methodist, and of the United Brethren, Churches; and has filled, for several years, the office of justice of the peace, at Montville, where he still resided in Aug. 1874.
