Allis Whitney was born in Harford, Pennsylvania. He settled in 1835 in the then thriving town Honesdale and worked at the carpenter's trade until his health failed and physicians advised him to follow an out of door business. In 1849 he started in the livery business in a small way and built up a prosperous trade to which his sons George and Horace finally succeeded. He added farming, having three large farms in his possession at his death. For many years he was a director in the Wayne County Agricultural society. He died 2 Oct 1889; resided Honesdale, Pennsylvania.

Allis9 Whitney (Torrey8, Moses7, Samuel6, Samuel5, Nathaniel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Torrey8 and Betsey (Lamb) Whitney, was born 13 Nov 1816, Harford, PA, and died 2 Oct 1889, Honesdale, PA.

He married firstly, 18 Oct 1842, Elizabeth Welch. She was born 6 Oct 1819, and died 4 Jul 1873.

He married secondly, 28 Jan 1878, Jane Aunger. She was born 25 Sep 1841.
