George7 Whitney (Henry6, John5, Abraham4, Joseph3, John2, Henry1), son of Henry6 and Lucy (Grumman) Whitney, was born 14 Feb 1817, Wilton, CT, and died 23 Oct 1878, Shelby, OH. He was buried in Shelby-Oakland Cemetery, Shelby, OH.[1]

He married, 5 Apr 1838, Shelby, OH, Catharine Saltzgaber, daughter of Samuel and Catharine (Stober) Saltzgaber. She was born 17 Dec 1822, Schaefferstown, PA, and died 1 Feb 1877, Shelby, OH. She was buried in Shelby-Oakland Cemetery, Shelby, OH.[2]

Phoenix says the following:

". . . a shoe-maker . . . . They lived, first, in Richland Co., Ohio; then in Wisconsin, for 9 months; in Richland Co. again, for two years; moved to Vernon, Ohio, in 1860, and lived there seven years; and finally returned to Shelby, where they were living in Aug. 1874."

ii. William Henry Whitney, b. 26 Oct 1841, Shelby, OH; enlisted at Shelby, OH, in the Autumn of 1861, in Company I, 15th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry; and was killed in the battle of Murfreesborough, TN, 31 Dec 1863, and buried on the field of battle.
iii. Almira Whitney, b. 20 Feb 1844, Shelby, OH; m. 23 Mar 1865, Mansfield, OH, William A. Hollenbaugh, b. 22 Nov 1835, Madison, PA, and d. after 1873; a repairer of clocks and musical instruments. They were living at Shelby in 1873.
iv. Eli Whitney, b. 5 May 1846, Shelby, OH; enlisted in Company H, 64th Regiment, Ohio Voluntter Infantry; was killed 9 May 1864, in the battle of Rockyface Ridge, in Georgia, and was buried on the field of battle.
v. Sarah Jane Whitney, b. 16 Nov 1848, Shelby, OH; d. 16 Sep. 1849, Shelby, OH, and was buried in the Shelby Cemetery.
vi. Mary Melinda Whitney, b. 26 Aug 1850, Shelby, OH; d. 8 Oct 1927, Shelby, OH; m. 20 Sep 1866, Jackson, MI, Jacob B.
