Eli Martin8 Whitney (Eli7, Jacob6, Richard5, Richard4, Richard3, Richard2, John1), son of Eli7 and Sally (Locke) Whitney, was born about 1809 (calculated from age at marriage) or about 2 Dec 1807 (calculated from age at death), Lexington, MA, or 2 Dec 1808, Harvard, MA ("Eliza" Martin, per Charlestown vital records),[1] and died 11 Nov 1872, West Roxbury, MA, aged 64 years 11 months, 9 days, of pneumonia.[2]
He married firstly, before 1835, Mary James Mills, daughter of Oliver and Emily Gardner (Dabney) Mills. She was probably the "Mary Jane Whitney" who died 20 Jun 1842, Boston, MA, aged 26 years, of a rupture of a blood vessel, hence born about 1816.[3]
He, of Boston, married secondly, 9 Feb 1845, Roxbury, MA, Catherine Richards, of Roxbury, [4] daughter of Eliakim Richards. She was born about 1813, MA, and died after 1870.
He was a clerk.
