Biographies, Ottumwa Township
S. C. WHITNEY, farmer, P. O. Ottumwa, was born in Essex County, New York, in 1826, and
lived there eighteen years and moved to Licking County, Ohio, and lived in that State seven years
and moved to Springfield, Illinois, and lived there twenty-one years and came to Kansas in 1871
and located in Franklin County and lived there nine years, and located in Ottumwa Township,
Coffey County, in 1880, and has been engaged in farming and sheep raising. Mr. Whitney was
married in Springfield, Illinois, in 1852, to Miss Isabel Wolgamat, a native of Pennsylvania, and
has five children -- Barbara H., David, S. Betsy, Katy, and May. Mr. Whitney is a member of the
Advent Church.
